Conceptual – Factual

Students will be able to:

  • Comprehend the theoretical and practical areas of translation studies.
  • Comprehend the basic concepts of translation and the translation terminology.
  • Comprehend the linguistic and functional approaches in translation studies.
  • Use the computer software as well as the information and communication technologies at the level required by the field of Applied English and Translation.
  •  Comprehend the history of translation and the translation practices in the past.
  • Use their foreign language knowledge in other disciplines as well.
  • Have a broad understanding of the languages, cultures, and literatures.
  • Use the vocabulary proficiently in both the relevant foreign language and Turkish.
  • Have required knowledge, skills, and background in the field of translation.
  • Internalise the necessity of observing the professional ethics and implement the social, scientific and ethical values under any circumstances in collecting, interpreting, announcing, and applying the data related to the field of Applied English and Translation.

Abilities

Cognitive – Application

Students will be able to:

  • Translate the literary works, texts, scientific articles, newspapers and magazines/journals, and political, legal, economic, and technical texts as well as any other type of source texts from the original language to the target language.
  • Use their foreign language knowledge for theoretical and application purposes.
  • Translate the written texts into the target languages without losing the original cohesion and accuracy.
  • Follow the translation process and take part in pre- and post-editing.
  • Check the accuracy of the translations.
  • Analyse the professional problems.

Competences

Competence of Working Independently and Taking Responsibility

Students will be able to:

  • Analyse the professional problems.
  • Work effectively both individually and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Realise their academic and social responsibilities.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary groups and gain workplace experience.
  • Work out the main ideas of the texts in both original and target languages, and analyse these texts.
  • Use English at the ELP Level B2.
  • Adjust their level of language to their environment.
  • Comprehend various concepts such as business functions, performance, quality management, and standards.
