Programme’s Message

The Opticianry Programme is an associate degree programme aiming to educate prospective health technologists holding an associate degree conferred by the Vocational School who can choose and dispense the optical devices according to the specifications given and prescriptions written by ophthalmologists to eliminate or reduce visual impairments in patients diagnosed with refractive disorder, and also can adjust these devices for patients.

The Programme centres around achieving technical goals based on theory and practice such as comprehending anatomy and physiology of the human eye, optical physics, recognising and using optical devices, and choosing and assembling eyeglass frames and lenses according to prescription data, as well as around modern management and organisational knowledge such as planning the operation and management, performing the cost accounting, and managing the workflow of a business. The Programme has also been designed to cover general knowledge of public health, quality management systems and standards, and use of information technologies.

At the Opticianry Programme offering education through theoretical and practical courses, the information provided in theoretical courses is supported by carrying out the practices our students will encounter in their professional lives in the optical laboratories equipped with modern machines and devices, and also by the internships.

Prospective students of this Programme are expected to have:

* Manual skills,
* An interest in using optical devices,
* Business management and marketing skills,
* An interest in communicating with people,
* An aesthetical view and other similar measurable and observable distinctive attributes.

Career Options

Graduates of this Programme can work in:

  • Their own optical stores as opticians,
  • Optical stores as managers,
  • Factories manufacturing eyeglass lenses and frames, and
  • Firms importing and exporting optical devices.
