Programme's Message

Non-communicable diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, and chronic respiratory diseases, are responsible for 60% of the mortality around the globe. In Turkey, heart diseases constitute the cause for 11% of hospitalised cases and 36% of deaths. Thus, there is an ever-growing need for surgical interventions for both heart diseases and pulmonary diseases.

Today, various physiological monitoring and measurement devices such as cardiopulmonary bypass machines, intra-aortic balloon pumps, cardiopulmonary devices, and blood gas analysers are used in heart surgery. Medical background, technical knowledge and experience are required to operate and use these advanced devices.

The Programme of Perfusion Techniques aims to educate prospective perfusion technologists who have knowledge about the operating room and anaesthesia services management, and, under the supervision of a specialist physician such as a cardiovascular surgeon or an anaesthetist, can install and operate the devices and machines used for patient support during surgery, and communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, as well as other health disciplines.
