Educational Objectives

The importance of surgical interventions for cardiopulmonary diseases characterised by high mortality is increasing day by day. Treatment of these diseases relies on surgical operations performed with high technology equipment and devices. Having critical importance for surgical operations, these devices such as cardiopulmonary bypass machines, intra-aortic balloon pump, cardiopulmonary devices, and blood gas analysers keep the patients alive by circulating blood through all tissues after heart and lungs are stopped in heart surgeries. The Programme of Perfusion Techniques aims to educate prospective “Perfusion Technologists” who, under the supervision of a specialist physician such as a cardiovascular surgeon or an anaesthetist, can install the blood circulation machines, and administer and monitor the required medicines to ensure that the organs are perfused (fed) during surgery and also communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, as well as other health disciplines. Perfusion Technologists can work in cardiovascular clinics of public and private hospitals, and participate in scientific studies conducted by universities in Turkey or abroad.
